U18's Unbeaten Run Comes To An End
Swansea City Under-18s saw their unbeaten run come to an end on Saturday following a 2-1 defeat at Ipswich.
The young Swans were forced into a number of changes in the build-up to kick off as six players - including goalkeeper Lewis Thomas - went down with a sickness bug.
That meant 14-year-old goalkeeper Alex Lang had to be drafted in between the posts, while coach Cameron Toshack could only name two substitutes.
Ipswich went into the break with a 1-0 lead before the home side doubled their advantage shortly after the break.
The Swans pulled a goal back from the penalty spot through Owain Jones and could have equalised as the striker then hit the post.
“Overall, the boys deserve a lot of credit,” said Toshack. “We had an incredibly long journey on Friday, taking seven hours to get to Ipswich. Two of the boys were patched up and managed to play and we brought in young Alex Lang who I thought acquitted himself very well and deserves a lot of credit.
“On the game itself, I thought we had the better chances and more of them, but we haven’t managed to convert and we’ve come away with nothing. There are a lot of positives to take from the game but we need to be a little bit more ruthless up front.”
