Swans U18's 0 - 0 Huddersfield U18's
Swansea City Under-18s were held to a 0-0 draw with Huddersfield on Saturday, with coach Cameron Toshack labelling it their "best performance of the season so far."
The young Swans created numerous chances to break the deadlock, but a strong performance from the Huddersfield goalkeeper meant that honours were even at Fairwood.
The home side were without Daniel James, Owain Jones and Liam Cullen - James is still waiting his registration to be confirmed after arriving from Hull, while Jones and Cullen are involved with the club's Under-21 side.
"It was very pleasing overall," said Toshack. "We had two 16-year-olds on the pitch at any one time and three overall, which is great for our development.
"With that to bear in mind, the boys did really well against a strong Huddersfield side. We have worked really hard on our defensive shape recently and I'd go as far as saying that was our best performance of the season.
"You win games based on a solid defence and we need to take responsibility to keep clean sheets.
"We weren't as incisive at the top end of the pitch as we would have liked, but it was a lot harder to unlock the defence. "We had a couple of chances to win it, but it wasn't to be."
Meanwhile, Toshack was delighted to see a number of Academy players involved with the Under-21 squad as they prepare to face Crewe Alexandra at Landore tonight (6.30pm).
Lewis Thomas, Adnan Maric, Liam Cullen and Owain Jones are all looking to feature for Chris Llewellyn's side and Toshack hailed the development of the club's youngsters.
"That's what our role is all about, and it is great for both the coaches and players," he said. "Liam (Cullen) is involved and he is a very capable young man and is showing lot of promise.
"Owain (Jones) had a great pre-season and he is in the process of tightening up parts of his game, which he is working on very well."
