Academy Holds Coaching Workshop

Over 50 coaches from local teams and clubs attended a coaching workshop at Swans Academy in Landore on Wednesday evening.

Run in partnership with the Welsh Football Trust and FAW, the workshop outlined the Swans’ training philosophy and curriculum, with the aim to help improve the quality of coaching in South West Wales that can be passed on to enhance player development in the local area.

A number of local coaches attended the three hour session – where three groups of Swans Academy players and staff showcased training techniques and exercises – to club representatives from the likes of Afan Lido, Port Tennant and Llangennith.

Swans Academy Head of Coaching, David Adams says the evening was about passing on knowledge that could ultimately help more young players develop.

“These workshops are about working with the community and trying to help coaches develop.

“Most young players come into football at a grassroots level.

“Therefore we hope local coaches, who have seen the Swans curriculum and training techniques across three age groups tonight, will apply it to their teaching and training for more young players in the local area.

“So when a potential young player moves from junior football into the Academy the players are used to the type of training we do here and the transition is more seamless.”

More coaching workshops will be held by Swans Academy before the end of the year.
