Community Trust launches Disability Sports Camps
The Swans Community Trust will this summer host sports camps for children with a disability at venues across South West Wales.
Delivering coaching in a range of sports, including football, tennis, hockey and athletics, the camps will see the Community Trust go one step further in helping to improve opportunities for those with a disability to take part in physical activity.
The camps will be run at the following venues on the following dates:
• 26th July – Coleg Sir Gar – Carmarthenshire
• 2nd August – Llandarcy Academy of Sport – Neath Port Talbot
• 9th August – PlayFootball - Swansea
• 16th August – Crickhowell High School - Powys
• 23rd August – Brackla Sports Centre – Bridgend
Costing just £15 per day, with parents, carers, siblings free of charge (1 per participant), the camps will be run from 10am -2pm and will provide participants with pathways into a variety of sport, thanks to our collaboration with Disability Sport Wales on the delivery of the camps.
“Over the summer, we are hosting a series of multi-sports camps suitable for children with a disability,” said Richard Jones, the Community Trust’s Senior Inclusion Manager. “This is a great way of getting your child to try a range of different sports. We have been working with local Disability Sport Wales Development Officers to put these sessions on and at the end of each camp, children will be given information about where to access further inclusive sports sessions.
“We look forward to seeing you in the summer,” he finished.
The news comes after this week’s announcement that the Community Trust will deliver free summer cycling sessions for children with a disability, as well as the introduction of a range of inclusive sports sessions such as Down’s Syndrome football coaching and a disability tennis festival.
