Kingsley impressed by Primary Stars

Swans player Stephen Kingsley last week linked up with our Premier League Primary Stars project to help them encourage more young girls to get involved with football.

The first team defender dropped in to YGG Llwynderw with club ambassador Lee Trundle, to participate in the girls only football sessions that the project runs in conjunction with the Urdd.

In addition to delivering Premier League Primary Stars sessions to schools throughout South and West Wales, the project has teamed up with Welsh language organisation, the Urdd to run girls only football sessions across a number of Welsh language schools in Swansea.

Giving local girls the chance to hone their footballing skills in an environment that they are comfortable with, the sessions are delivered through the medium of Welsh and have been a big hit with budding young female footballers in Swansea, with Kingsley impressed with what he saw.

“It was great to visit the school and meet all the girls,” Stephen said. “Our Primary Stars project have teamed up with the Urdd to run these sessions and they’re doing a great job encouraging more young girls to start playing football and developing their skills,” he continued.

The Community Trust’s Education Manager, Thomas Williams, added, “It’s been brilliant to see the girls develop their skills and confidence over the last couple of weeks.  We are thrilled to be able to offer more opportunities for Girls to participate in football in Swansea.”

Following the session, Lee Trundle echoed their praise of the project and the effort from the participants saying, “The Swans Community Trust are doing a fantastic job at promoting football to girls and it’s been great to be a part of this. I’ve been able to visit a number of our projects and sessions that all aim at providing more opportunities in football for girls of all ages and it’s also great to see sessions delivered in Welsh too. The girls are doing a fantastic job and there’s some real talent shining through in this group.”
