PL Kicks participants made mascots for Swans Ladies

Participants from our Premier League Kicks project will lead out Swansea City AFC Ladies in this weekend’s Welsh Premier Women’s League clash against Aberystwyth Town Ladies.

Baglan Boys and Girls Club under-7 girls team - who are coached by Swans Ladies midfielder Katy Hosford at our Mini Kicks sessions - will be mascots for the Ladies team as the club continue their International Women’s Day celebrations.

The Premier League Kicks programme started as a pilot project in London between the Premier League and the Metropolitan Police in 2006, but has since developed and aims to use football to bring communities together and to engage with young people. In addition to sessions for both boys and girls, our Kicks project offers a range of free sessions each week solely for budding young female footballers.

Swans Ladies manager Ian Owen has expressed his delight at welcoming the team to Sunday’s match.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming the girls from Baglan Boys and Girls Club under-7s at the game on Sunday," Ian said. "To see these young females getting involved with our promotion of International Women’s Day is fantastic.

“Hopefully we can inspire them to continue in sport for a long time,” he finished.

The match will kick-off at 2pm at Llandarcy Academy of Sport, stay tuned to @Swans_Ladies_FC on Twitter for live match updates.
