PL Enterprise host first round of Business in the Bay

The Swans Community Trust's Premier League Enterprise project hosted the local round of the Business in the Bay competition at Swansea University's School of Management this week.

Aiming to find a team of budding young business students to represent the Swans in the national competition, teams from the School of Management went head-to-head to fulfil a business brief based around the football club.

Asked to come up with a product to keep junior Jacks fit and healthy, the teams of students pitched their ideas to our PL Enterprise coaches.

The winning team will now go on to represent Swansea at the final held at the Liberty Stadium, where they will set a new brief by Price Waterhouse Coopers later this month.

Each team, representing a range of universities, will then deliver a pitch to a panel made up of industry expert and their ideas will be judged on a range of entrepreneurial skills including communication, team work, problem solving and professionalism. The winning team will walk away with a grand prize of £1,000 but that's not the only reward for those involved as participants are able to develop and hone a range of skills from team work to public speaking.

"These kind of challenges help to develop my skills and I get good experience from them," said Rachel Glick, a final year Business Management student who was on the winning team. "Since I've been in uni I've entered about 12-15 different competitions and they are something I like doing. Business in the Bay is something that we did last year and we won so it's very rewarding to take part. You have to use a lot of different skills, have a lot of fun and get to know people, as well as find out about how different companies operate," she continued.

"Application wise, it's been a good day," added Sam Smith, a Business Management and Finance student. "It's useful to create an idea, pitch it and eventurally get feedback on it so you can improve yourself."

Stay tuned for live updates on Twitter (@scfccommunitytr) of the competition on February 22 and 23.
