Community Trust and Swansea Uni launch 'Business in the Bay'

The Swans Community Trust are teaming up with Swansea University School of Management and their partners Price Waterhouse Coopers to deliver an exciting nationwide business competition entitled Business in the Bay.

On the 22nd and 23rd of February the Liberty Stadium will host teams of students from around the country, competing to create a brilliant solution to a business problem set by the experts at PWC.

Each team will have to deliver a pitch to a panel made up of industry experts, including representation from Swansea City AFC and university academics. Their ideas will be judged on a range of entrepreneurial skills including communication, team work, problem solving and professionalism. The winning team will walk away with a grand prize of £1000.

To support them during the competition the students will be working with a mentor from industry. This will provide them with insights into the world of commerce that will be helpful not only for Business in the Bay, but their future careers as well.

Event organiser, Swansea School of Management’s Jess Loomba said, “‘Business in the Bay provides an alternative method for students to enhance their employability skills outside of academia.

"For students that haven’t had the chance to complete a module that includes practical elements, or are lacking in work experience, the competition is a great chance for them to experience working in a professional environment."

Swansea City AFC Community Trust Enterprise Coordinator Graham Smith is delighted to be part of this competition and added, “Business in the Bay is a fantastic opportunity for the Trust to expand our enterprise education programme beyond schools and into the higher education sector. We believe the experience of being a Premier League football club gives us a unique perspective into the world of business, which will be useful to the students as they progress through their degrees.”

On the 8th of February there will be a preliminary competition held at Bay Campus to select Swansea’s Business in the Bay team.
