More Swans Academy news:
Tenth PL2 win a credit to our season, says Richards
A brace from George Byers helped Swansea City Under-23s to their tenth Premier League 2 victory of the season with a 3-2 win at West Ham on Monday night.
The midfielder's low strike on the half-hour mark ensured the young Swans held the interval lead in Dagenham.
Botti Biabi's close-range strike doubled the Swans lead after the break before Byers netted his second of the night from the penalty spot.
Late drama saw West Ham net two late goals in the space of five minutes to ensure a nervy end, but Swansea held on to record a sixth successive Division 2 win.
Coach Gary Richards paid tribute to Swansea City Under-23s’ tenth league win of the season but admitted disappointment with two late goals during Monday’s 3-2 victory over West Ham.
“We are delighted to come away with all three points,” Richards said. “Our tenth league win this season is a credit to how well we are doing as a team.
“West Ham are a very good side and showed that with their late fightback. The first half was a very close contest and I think we were fortunate to go in at the break a goal up.
“We were much better for large spells of the second half as we put in some good tackles, played some flowing football and didn’t give them time on the ball.
“It was disappointing to finish the game the way we did. When you are three goals up and in a comfortable position it is important to defend well and see the game out.
“Our young players have to learn from games like this if they want to play at a professional level.
“There are still plenty of positives to take but the result also shows there is still plenty we need to work on this season.”
