Weekly Walking Football sessions open to all

If you’re looking to get your heart pumping but aren’t up for a full 90 minutes, then Walking Football could be the activity for you, and we now run sessions at four different venues.

Allowing you to play the sport that you love at a pace and intensity that’s right for you, Walking Football has quickly become one of Community Trust’s most popular initiatives and is continuing to grow after a successful 2015/16 season.

Running sessions at the Meadow View Sports Complex in Swansea and Llandarcy Academy of Sport in Neath, Walking Football is an all-inclusive sport and anyone is welcome to come along.

“Walking Football is a variant of the traditional game originally aimed at gents over 50, but it’s open to all ages, abilities and both men and women,” explained Jack Spillets, the Community Trust’s Senior Health Trainer.

“It was developed to help its participants improve their health and wellbeing by increasing their levels of physical activities and generating small communities and groups of like-minded individuals. The sessions are a great way to improve your health and fitness in a safe, welcoming and fun environment,” he continued.

With the aim of providing an opportunity for physical activity at an intensity that is right for all, as well as the chance to socialise and have fun, Walking Football has helped many of its participants lead healthier lives.

“Since I started taking part in Walking Football, I feel fitter and have lost weight,” said Jefferey Brown, 54 from Swansea who attends our Llandarcy sessions. “It’s a good workout and a good mix of people. I’d recommend it to others,” he continued.

“The benefits I’ve experiences from Walking Football are getting fit and socialising,” added Colin Chu, 62 also from Swansea. “You get a good run out with like-minded people,” he continued.

If you want to get involved, feel free to come to one of our Walking Football sessions which are held on a weekly basis at:

•Llandarcy Academy of Sport – Thursday 3.15-4.15pm – Llandarcy Park, Llandarcy, Neath, SA10 6JD
