Under-23s start Premier League Cup with a draw
Swansea City Under-23s kicked-off this seasons Premier League Cup campaign with a goalless draw against Newcastle United at Whitley Park on Friday.
The young Swans, playing the Magpies for a second time in five days, made seven changes to the side that narrowly lost 3-2 in the PL2 league fixture on Monday with Tom Plezier, Alex Samuel and Jordan Garrick all starting.
Swansea were the better side in the first half with a number of chances in front of goal - the best falling to Ryan Blair, but the midfielder’s 25-yard drive cannoned off the crossbar.
The visitors continued to control the game in the second half but could not find the back of the net before the full-time whistle.
The draw earns the U23s a point in Group A with their next match against Southampton in November.
SWANS U23s: Gregor Zabret, Aaron Lewis, Tom Plezier, Jack Evans, Keston Davies, Joe Rodon, Alex Samuel, Ryan Blair, Botti Biabi, Tom Dyson (Daniel James, 67), Jordan Garrick (Owain Jones, 80).
SUBS NOT USED: Ross Tracey, Tyler Reid, Adnan Maric.
