Young Swans reach Semis in PL4S National Tennis Competition
A team of youngsters represented the Swans at the annual Premier League 4 Sport National Tennis Competition today.
Held at the National Tennis Centre, the competition is now in its fourth year and is the product of the Premier League’s partnership with British Tennis.
Chosen from the participants of the Community Trust’s PL4S project, the four young tennis players headed to Roehampton to compete against other teams representing Premier and Football League clubs.
Beating QPR, Leicester, Nottingham County and Chelsea in the group games, they then beat Manchester City in the Quarter-Final before ending their winning streak to eventual champions, Stoke City in the Semi-Final.
Following the Final, the teams were then able to visit the All England Club at Wimbledon, where they were given the chance to see world-class players up close, including GB tennis star, Marcus Willis.
“It was really good fun and I really enjoyed playing today, especially in a full Swansea City AFC kit,” said Sacha Prashard. “Representing the Swans was great and going to Wimbledon has always been a goal of mine so I’m over the moon to have finally experienced being there,” he continued.
“This experience was really helpful and it was nice meeting other people from different clubs and playing tennis with them,” said Sacha’s team-mate, Jo Raicovici. “ Even though we didn’t win, we had loads of fun and we enjoyed it. It was unreal seeing Wimbledon with my own eyes and it was better than I thought it was going to be,” she added.
