BikeAbility Wales benefit from SwansAid

A local cycling charity recently received £1,750 from the Club’s grant-giving pot, SwansAid.

Based in Swansea, BikeAbility Wales aims to provide cycling opportunities to people with disabilities.

“It is fantastic to receive the SwansAid award,” exclaimed Mike Cherry of BikeAbility. “The funds will be used to purchase six specialist childrens’ cycles.”

Founded in 2004 to make cycling more accessible to people with disabilities in South West Wales, BikeAbility Wales have a large variety of specialist bicycles to accomplish this goal.

“We want to enable people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the pleasures and health benefits of cycling,” Mike continued.

“We work with individuals who find themselves particularly excluded from exercise opportunities by physical or mental challenges.”

Additionally, enabling children to learn to ride has the added benefit of helping them to develop cognitive, physical and social skills.

“Sport is very important to our young members’ development as it enable them to achieve a variety of lifelong skills,” Mike finished.
