Gower Riders presented with SwansAid funds
The Gower Riders were this week presented with funds courtesy of SwansAid.
Awarded with £2,000 by the Community Trust’s grant giving pot, the cycling club have earmarked the money for children’s racing/cyclo-cross bikes for the use of less privileged children.
Located in the Penyrheol Leisure Centre in Gorseinon, the family-based cycling club also holds sessions at local primary schools and engages with up to 80 young participants.
Catering for children and young people aged between six and 16, Gower Riders Cycling Club teaches them a variety of skills through a series of coached sessions.
Additionally, the Club runs indoor cycle spin sessions to help improve the youngsters' fitness.
“Cycling is a very popular activity and has a number of benefits to the children and young people that attend the Club,” said Kevin Rees from the Cycling Club. “It provides opportunities for the children and young people to engage in regular physical activity supporting them to live an active healthy lifestyle,” he added.
“The SwansAid grant will enable us to purchase seven bikes, which will enable us to confidently engage and recruit more junior members. New and existing members will therefore be able to participate and compete in more than one discipline of cycling, without the immediate financial implications being passed on to the family,” Kevin continued.
The grant therefore, will help the cycling club to continue to fulfil its philosophy of making cycling a more accessible, more enjoyable and more sustainable sport in Swansea.
