Local youngsters head to Goodison to represent the Swans
This year’s Premier League Schools Tournament will take place at the home of Everton FC, Goodison Park, on Tuesday 17 May.
The annual tournament, now in its eleventh year, will again comprise of representatives of all 20 Premier League clubs in two six-a-side competitions running simultaneously on the day – an Under 11s mixed tournament and an Under 13s girls tournament.
Over 14,000 young people and 1,700 schools have taken part in the Tournament this year, with clubs each holding their own heats to determine who would be representing them at Everton’s home ground.
All of the students participating on the day will receive an authentic Premier League experience - wearing their Premier League club kit and walking out of the tunnel to the Premier League anthem. To add to the excitement of the day, the matches will be officiated by top Premier League referees including, Andre Marriner, Michael Jones, Bobby Madeley, Darren Bond, Martin Atkinson and Peter Barnes.
Representing the Swans will be a team of boys from Ysgol Castell Nedd, who received advice from Lee Trundle and Keston Davies last week, as well as a girls team from Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, who had the chance to train with the Swans Ladies team.
TV presenters Lauren Layfield and Mark Wright will be at this year’s event, giving words ofencouragement to the players and filming on behalf of BBC Match of the Day Kickabout. The show will be airing on Saturday 28 May and will then be available to watch on the BBC iPlayer.
