Walking Football continues to grow

If you’re looking to get your heart pumping but aren’t up for a full 90 minutes, then Walking Football could be the activity for you, and we now run sessions at four different venues.

Allowing you to play the sport that you love at a pace and intensity that’s right for you, Walking Football has quickly become one of Hearty Lives’ most popular initiatives and is continuing to grow as the season goes on.

Originally running sessions at Meadow View Sports Complex and Llandarcy Academy of Sport, Walking Football is now available at two additional venues in the form of Neath Sports Centre and the new Aberavon leisure facility in Port Talbot.

“Walking Football has become increasingly popular and some people are travelling from as far as Carmarthen to take part,” said the Hearty Lives’ Project Coordinator, Leonne Daniel.

“Players are really enjoying the game and have requested that we create more opportunities to play, so that’s what we are trying to do,” he continued.

“We want to make sure people of all ages and abilities can get onto the football pitch at a walking pace,” said Leonne. “Weekly exercise like this can, and is, changing peoples’ lives and encourages more people in the Neath Port Talbot area to get regular exercise and to keep fit and healthy,” he continued.

With the aim of providing an opportunity for physical activity at an intensity that is right for all, as well as the chance to socialise and have fun, Walking Football has helped many of its participants lead healthier lives.

“The project has definitely helped me since it started,” said Keith Jenkins from Cwmafon. “Hearty Lives has given me education on exercise, the heart, advice on diet and taking part has even encouraged me to give up smoking.”
