Young footballers sign up to Family Fun Run

This Easter Monday, the Trust are hosting their first Family Fun Run and we are inviting teams and individuals to sign up in a bid to get fit and help us raise vital funds.

The money raised will help us to continue to deliver our range of community projects, and it was this, mixed with the fact that the event will see participants run through the Liberty Stadium for the first time ever, that encouraged one local football team to enter.

Treboeth's under-11 side were quick off the mark to sign up for the event taking place on Monday 28th March.

“When I told them we will run through the Stadium, the team got really excited,” the youngster’s coach, Gareth Naismith, said. “It feels great to help out with the Trust in any way we can.”

The young team were also motivated to enter by the fact that soon, they will progress to playing 11-a-side. The run therefore, will provide them with the perfect way to get them all on the road to becoming fitter.

“Next season, our team will start to play on a full size pitch and I thought that the Swans Family Fun Run would be a great way to get our teams’ fitness up and help raise some cash for the Trust as well,” Gareth continued.

“We have never done anything like this before and we are all really looking forward to it,” he continued.

Taking place on Easter Monday, the event will include three different distances for all ages and abilities (a 1k, 5k and timed 10k), and it will be the 1k that the side will be training for.

Supplementing their weekly football sessions with Sunday runs around Fendrod Lake, the young side are well on their way to getting fit in time for the fundraising fun run.

So put aside thoughts of Easter Eggs and get involved in what promises to be a great day out for your team or family.

Entry includes a Swansea City medal and everyone who registers will be entered into a prize draw to win tickets to see the Swans take on Manchester City. The prices* for each run are as follows:

• 1k - £5 (starts at 10am)

• 5k - £5 (starts at 10.45am)

• 10k timed race for over 15 year olds - £12 (starts at 12pm)
