Trust show support for Start Here campaign

The Community Trust has teamed up with the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board (ABMU) to help promote the support they offer to smokers looking to quit through their pharmacy service.

If you’re one of the 90% of smokers in the local area who would like to ditch the habit, then you’re in luck because we are now working with the ABMU Public Health team and to help promote the Health Boards’ pharmacy based stop smoking service.

Participating pharmacies offer free one to one, confidential advice and support for up to 12 sessions, as well as free nicotine replacement products, which can help smokers be up to four times more likely to quit.

“It’s really good news that locally we will soon have over 70 pharmacies who will provide this support for smokers,” said Judith Tomlinson, one of ABMU’s Consultants in Public Health. “This helps to ensure that smokers can access the type of service they want, when and where they want it.”

“As an ex-smoker, I know the benefits I got from stopping smoking for good, not least that I can do more without getting breathless,” added Linden Jones, Head of Community at the Trust. “The Community Trust is committed to supporting people across the area to improve their health, so partnering on this project really fits the bill.”

The Community Trust and the ABMU Public Health team are currently on the lookout for a couple of smokers who would like to quit, using the pharmacy service. We would follow your journey from smoker to non-smoker and would enter you into a draw offering you the chance to win two tickets to watch the Swans play at home. If you want to register your interest for this great opportunity, please contact Julie Davies from the ABMU Public Health Team on 01792607280.
