Premier League 4 Sport lives up to its name

One of the Community Trust’s newer projects, Premier League 4 Sport (PL4S) has recently rolled out a new programme of sessions throughout Swansea and the surrounding area.

Whereas the other initiatives of the Trust primarily focus on football, PL4S lives up to its name and focuses on sport as a whole, with a primary concentration on four specific sports; tennis, hockey, table tennis and basketball.

With the overall aim of feeding the communities’ existing sports clubs with new participants, PL4S delivers ‘satellite’ sessions at a range of venues throughout Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and South West Wales.

These satellite sessions offer participants easy access to low cost, and often free coaching in each of the four highlighted sports.

But don’t worry if you can’t slam dunk or if you can’t serve up an ace every time you’re on the court because all young people aged between 13 and 19 are welcome, regardless of their sporting ability.

Acting as a more relaxed environment compared to traditional club based sessions, the emphasis is on enjoyment and social interaction, rather than on technical development.

Once participants feel confident and competent enough to further their skills, they can then be signposted to their nearest hub club.

Funded through the Premier League Charitable Fund, PL4S’s aim is to use the appeal and the brand image of Swansea City and the PL to encourage more young people into sport.

Since its adoption in 2014, PL4S has engaged with a total of 1,276 participants and has recruited 35 volunteers to deliver its ever-growing number of sessions.
