The Hearty Lives project needs you!

We are looking to train volunteers to deliver positive and accurate health messages in Neath Port Talbot.

More people living in this area suffer with long-term life limiting illness than anywhere else in Wales and life expectancy is on average 10 years shorter. Hearty Lives aims to tackle this and helps to encourage a more active and healthier lifestyle and you could be a part of delivering this message within your community.

By becoming a volunteer, you’ll benefit from the following:
• Increased awareness of health issues
• Satisfaction in helping others achieve long lasting lifestyle changes
• Opportunity to develop skills, gain qualifications and therefore enhancing your CV and gaining accreditation
• Opportunity to work alongside others and develop new relationships in the community
• To have quality time away from work or a busy lifestyle

You will have the opportunity to take part in a number of training courses that the scheme offers including:
• Volunteer Induction
• Hearty Lives Volunteer delivery training
• Brief Intervention for Smoking Cessation
• Brief Alcohol Intervention
• OCN Level 2 Community Food Nutrition
• Mental Health Awareness
• Communication
• Heart Start/First Aid training

As a volunteer, your role will vary to include a wealth of responsibilities including:
• Communicating confidently with participants
• Attending training and workshops to build upon your own knowledge
• Attending events and workshops, as well as be involved in their planning and preparation
• Delivering positive and accurate health messages enthusiastically to a wide range of communities across Neath Port Talbot
• Being a positive role model to the participants
• Delivering valuable support to individuals to achieve a long lasting lifestyle change
• Signposting individuals to relevant  health promotion agencies or activities through information sharing
