Under-18s slip to defeat at Landore
Swansea City Under-18s fell to their fifth defeat of the season at home to Southampton on Saturday following a 3-1 loss at Landore.
Despite a bright start from the scholars it was Southampton who broke the deadlock halfway through the first-half when Olofela Olohola's cross was directed past Lewis Thomas by Joe Lea.
The visitors doubled their lead a minute later – striker Olohola beat the Swans defence on the break to fire home before winger Carel Kayembe extended the Saints lead before half-time.
A better display in the second-half from the Under-18s saw substitute Causso Darame latch onto a through ball to test the Saints keeper inside the area.
And a consolation goal from defender Aaron Lewis ten minutes before the end gave the hosts hope, but it was not enough for the young Swans.
Despite the loss, coach Chris Llewellyn believes the team can take more positives from the result than negatives.
“At times today we put in a better performance than we did against Norwich last week,” he said. “We need to focus on the positives rather than the negatives.
“Our passage of play through the midfield was encouraging at points of the match.
“We have dominated large spells of the game but two quick-fire goals in the first-half have changed the momentum.
“We have shown our character and resilience in the second half and continued to battle to get back into the game with Aaron (Lewis) scoring a deserved goal late on.
“But overall a few errors have cost us, which is an area we need to improve on.
“We are still learning at this level but we need to focus on our performance level rather than results.”
