Freestyle Swans soccer skills star goes viral
Swans fan Jacob Mason has become an internet sensation after showing off his fantastic football skills on a YouTube video which has gone viral.
Helen Elton, Assistant Head of Swansea City AFC Community Trust, spotted the video online and invited 12 year old Jacob down to the Liberty for a tour, where he also got to attend the press conference ahead of the Newcastle United game.
“We were just so impressed with Jacob’s skills, that as a Community Trust we wanted to recognise him for all time and effort he has put in,” Helen said, but it wasn't just members of the Trust the young left winger got to meet.
Swans manager Garry Monk also took time out of his busy schedule to meet Jacob and spent some time chatting with him about his skills and newfound fame.
“It was an incredible feeling meeting Garry Monk," said Jacob. "H’s been at the club so long and done an amazing job.
"He was asking me questions about my football skills and what I want to do in the future!”
It wasn’t just Swansea City AFC Community Trust that took notice of Jacob’s amazing ability. After his visit to the Liberty he has also appeared in the South Wales Evening Post and on the ITV Wales Evening News and Julie Mason, Jacob’s mother, said that all the attention has been amazing.
“It’s really made us so proud of him and his achievements. We’ve been overwhelmed by it all,” she exclaimed.
Jacob, who has autism, currently plays for Swansea Bravehearts and is hoping this is only the beginning for his football career.
At the time of writing his YouTube video has had nearly 2000 views, and he is hoping that it will help him fulfil his dream of becoming a full-time footballer or a Freestyle soccer skills professional.
