Foundation teams win London festival

Swansea City's Under-9 and Under-10 teams beat off competition from two London clubs to win a football festival at the weekend. The festival hosted by QPR, saw the young Swans also play Millwall.

All three teams entered two sides into the round-robin tournament with the U9s playing a 5v5 format and the U10s a 7 v 7 format. The Swans U9s beat QPR's second team in the final while it was an all Swansea affair for the U10s finale with the second team winning on penalties.

Swans Academy's Head of Foundation, Dan Maxwell hailed a fantastic effort by the young Swans and their coaches.

"Although the festival was a pre-season friendly, the tournament had an element of competition which is important for the players development." He said.

"The festival also gave us an opportunity to play against two teams that we don't normally play against as part of our regular games programme. It was a good challenge for the boys to compete against different types of players and styles of play."
