U21s lose final pre-season friendly away at Yeovil

Swansea City Under-21s ended their pre-season with a defeat away at Yeovil Town's first team on Tuesday evening at Huish Park.

Yeovil started brightly, two early chances for Jamie Burrows and Matthew Dolan were well kept out by Josh Vickers in the Swans goal. Despite the home sides early chances it was the U21s who took the lead on the break through Henry Jones, the midfielder running onto a through ball from Jay Fulton to slot home from outside the area on eleven minutes. Yeovil equalised eight minutes later, a floated free-kick headed into the Swans goal by Glovers defender Alex Lacey. The home side could of extended their lead just minutes later with a free-kick that was carbon copy effort of the first goal, only for Vickers to dive low to his right to tip the ball round the post. Swans U21s had spells of good link-up play with Barrow down the wing creating more chances for Henry and Owain Jones, only for the front men to put wide keeping the score level at half-time.

HALF-TIME: Yeovil Town 1 - 1 Swansea City Under-21s

Yeovil Town made four changes at the break to spark them into life early in the second half, a chance falling to substitute Ryan Bird, his long distance effort saved by the fingertips of Vickers five minutes into the restart. Minutes later Jennison Myrie-Williams 20 yard shot hit Bird and was deflected over the bar. Despite some pressure from Swansea it was the home side who took the lead in the 71st minute, the lively Ryan Bird breaking free to slot home from just inside the area. Former Glovers loanee Josh Sheehan had his effort well saved ten minutes from time, only for Brandon Beresford to bag Yeovils third in the 88th minute, the Yeovil midfielder latching onto a loose ball headed out from the Swans defence to fire past Vickers into the bottom right hand corner. Alex Samuel scored a consolation for Swansea City U21s deep into injury time, diving to head home Dan Alfei's low cross.
