U9s clinch cup in Poland

Swans Academy Under-9s beat off competition from around Europe to win the 2015 APN Football Cup in Poland this weekend.

The Academy Foundation squad topped their group by five points after winning nine out of their 10 matches and scoring 50 goals during the two days of games.

Under-9s coach, Jackson Moody said: “This is a fantastic result for our Under-9s and Swans Academy.

“The trip and tournament has been invaluable for the players, not just in a football sense but also in regards to helping our boys develop as young players.

“This is the youngest team we have ever taken to play abroad, they have coped with it really well, played in extremely competitive environments, learnt game management and how to deal with a pressure situations against some tough young foreign teams.”

Academy Head of Foundation Phase, Dan Maxwell added: "Congratulations to all the players and staff who have worked with the under-9s this season.

"Winning the tournament in the way we did against some good European opposition is a fantastic achievement for our youngest group at Swans Academy.

"The boys have travelled away for the first time as a team and have learnt some invaluable lessons on and off the pitch which is extremely important for their development as players."

The win tops off a good week for Swans Academy, with the Under-19s lifting the FAW Youth Cup for a sixth straight year in a row, following a 3-1 win over Cardiff City on Thursday.
