Under-9s head to Poland
Swans Academy under-9s head to Poland this week to face teams from across Europe in the APN Football Cup 2015.
The team will be the youngest Swansea City have taken on football tour with the Academy foundation phase facing the likes of Legia Warsaw’s under-9s, Czech side Slavia Prague and Latvian youth team FC Super Nova.
The eight sides entered into the competition will be split into two groups of four, taking part in 15 minute seven-a-side games during the four day tournament.
Roy Thomas, Academy Coach Educator said: “This will be a great opportunity for our foundation phase players to gain some tournament experience in another country and for them to see what it is like to travel away with a team.
“As well as the chance of playing football, the trip will also be good educational opportunity, we will be asking each player to do a diary of their experiences each day so they can report back to their schools to show their teachers, friends and parents.”
Academy Manager, Nigel Rees added: “This is the first time Swans Academy have sent a team as young as this away but it gives these young players the opportunity of a lifetime to play some excellent young teams from across Europe.
“Tours of this nature give our players the chance to develop life skills in addition to their sport development.”
