Swans land in South Africa

Swansea City have this week begun to build football links in South Africa.

A team from Swans Academy coaching staff arrived in Cape Town on Monday to begin a week of coaching sessions with school children at local football clubs across the city.

Academy staff will also be hosting football seminars for local coaches to attend, encouraging more people in the game to learn the Swansea style.

The workshops take place ahead of Swans under-19s playing in the annual Metropolitan Premier Cup tournament in the city next week.

Head of Coaching, David Adams believes the trip is going to be a good opportunity to promote the Swans philosophy and build fresh links in a new part of the world.

“Our main focus will be to work within the football community at a grassroots level in Cape Town.” He said.

“We will be reaching around 500 schoolchildren with training sessions throughout the week from Tuesday.

“Local coaches will also be attending workshops, which gives us an opportunity to teach our playing style and methods, helping coaches here understand the way we develop players at Swans Academy.

“I think this trip has the potential to have a massive impact for Swansea City and the Academy.

“We hope to provide ideas and a framework for coaches, we will also offer local children who aspire to be professional players the chance to progress with our training sessions.”
