An Academy Under-19s side will be travelling to Cape Town on March 29 to take part in the 27th edition of the competition.

The 32-team tournament at Erica Park features the likes of three-time SA Premier League Champions Kaiser Chiefs and six-time Metropolitan Cup winners Ajax Cape Town.

The Swans will be one of four international teams invited to play in the tournament alongside Brazilian side Vasco da Gama and Barclays Premier League side Southampton.

Before the tournament kicks-off on Wednesday, April 1 a team of Swans coaching staff will be visiting local schools to hold coaching workshops and training sessions with young players.

Academy coaches will also visit football clubs in the local area inviting coaches to attend seminars to share education and coaching ideas.

Academy Manager Nigel Rees said: “We are very excited to have been invited to play in the competition this Easter, it will be an excellent experience for both our players and staff.

“Our young players will have the opportunity to play against some excellent local opposition and continue their football development in another country.

“Our coaches will also be heading to local schools and football clubs to host coaching workshops and seminars, giving many young players the opportunity to access a structured football programme delivered by qualified Swansea City coaches.

“Boys and girls will have exposure to the Swansea way of playing football and hopefully get an understanding of the culture and philosophy of the club.”
